The Stonegate Community, a large residential apartment complex, was experiencing increasing challenges with its existing entry systems, which relied on outdated Doorking intercom technology. Across 27 entry points, the legacy system had become unreliable, difficult to manage, and no longer aligned with the expectations of modern residents. Tenants frequently encountered issues when granting access to guests, while property management lacked the tools needed to efficiently oversee and control building entry.
The original Doorking intercom systems were built for a much earlier generation of access control. They operated without video capability, remote access, or centralized management. Residents were required to be physically present to grant entry, which created inconvenience for everyday visitors, service providers, and package deliveries. Over time, the hardware itself showed clear signs of aging, with worn components and declining performance impacting usability.
From an operational standpoint, the system created significant inefficiencies for property management. There was no ability to remotely add or remove users, track access activity, or make real-time updates. Every change required manual intervention, which slowed down tenant onboarding and made it difficult to maintain proper access control across the property. As the community continued to grow, it became clear that a modern, scalable solution was needed.
Kelo Tech was selected to upgrade all 27 intercom systems throughout Stonegate Community to a ButterflyMX cloud-based platform. The project included the removal of the existing Doorking hardware, necessary infrastructure upgrades, and the installation of smart video intercom systems at each entry point. The rollout was carefully coordinated to minimize disruption to residents while ensuring a smooth and efficient transition across the entire complex.
With the new ButterflyMX system in place, residents now benefit from a significantly enhanced entry experience. The addition of video intercom functionality allows tenants to see and communicate with visitors in real time before granting access. Through the mobile app, residents can unlock doors remotely from anywhere, providing a level of convenience that was not possible with the previous system. This has greatly improved day-to-day interactions for both residents and their guests.
Property management also gained a powerful set of tools through the cloud-based system. Access permissions can now be managed remotely, allowing staff to instantly add or remove users and monitor entry activity in real time. This level of control has improved security across the property while reducing the time and effort required to manage access. The system also provides greater transparency and accountability for all entry events.
The upgrade from Doorking intercoms to ButterflyMX transformed Stonegate Community from a property relying on outdated, manual systems into a modern, connected environment.
